Left of the Dial Festival – 19 and 20 October – Rotterdam (NL)

Tired of ADE week fest and all this dance bollocks? Well, I’ve got good news for you! Rotterdam is celebrating with some good punk, garage and rock n’ roll bands this weekend at a new showcase called Left of the Dial.

The festival, named after a song by The Replacements, will feature the best post-punk, garage, shoegaze and noise rock at the moment. Well, not all of them, but a good 48 bands from across the scenes.

Spread across six locations in Rotterdam, the fun will take place this weekend, the 19th and 20th, throughout several venues in the city. Heatwave will be down to check it out on both days, of course! We’ll be in the pit, so be sure to look out for us!

Make sure to check out the showcase from Spazz Records, an independent record label from Rotterdam formed  in February 2018 by Marcel Haug and Gary van Niks. They will invade the cool red boat venue, V11, at the Wijnhaven (Wine Harbor) on Friday night. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for full timetables and more info.

The label has been releasing limited edition batches of 7-inches, consisting of only 300 copies per pressing. Their preference for short releases, with just one song per side and a maximum length of four-minutes per song, is due to “the positive limitation it requires.”

Spazz Records will showcase three bands from their record label – Pig Frenzy, Les Robots and JC Thomas & The Missing Slippers.

Pig Frenzy consists of ex-members of Rotterdam bands Forbidden Wizards, Goodnight Moonlight and INWAR. We hear they are very rough, dirty and mostly untamed – we’re are really looking forward to see this band live. Have a listen below:

Coming all the way from outer space, these mechanical men are presumably programmed by legendary producer Joe Meek to make astonishing instrumental music! In the words of Spazz records, these guys have “a soft spot for these mental earthlings like Joe Meek, The Ventures, Takeshi Terrauchi, Booker T. & The MGs, Link Wray, The Shadows and those composers of 60s cinema soundtracks.” We look forward to see how far their rocket takes us…

JC Thomas & The Missing Slippers

This Rotterdam garage-blues-punk blend has built quite a reputation in Rotterdam. We hear they surround the stage with two alternate drummers while another layer of mayhem and a row of amplifiers uplifts the garage-punk-beast within you. Heatwave also hears we might have a surprise at this show! This band sound right up to our street!

Check them out here:

Left on the Dial will be showcasing a lot more bands, so make sure you come down for both nights.

Important mention to Bad Nerves, who will also headline our Launch Party  in Amsterdam in December. This UK band will be playing on Saturday the 20th at Rotown. If you cannot make it to our Launch (but you should!) this is your chance to check them out in the Netherlands.

What else can we say that we haven’t said yet? They are explosive, catchy and their live will leave you wanting more. Go check them out and listen below:

We hope to see you there!!
