Hay discos que presentan a un artista y otros que lo definen. Con Ànimes, Nofre Morell entrega lo segundo: un trabajo profundamente personal y cargado de emoción que marca un punto de inflexión tanto en su sonido como en su identidad. Mientras Heatwave Magazine estrena la sesión grabada en vivo de “Com seria”, nos adentramos en un proyecto que se siente menos como una colección de canciones y más como una ventana abierta al mundo interior del artista.

Nacido en Palma de Mallorca en 1994, la conexión de Morell con la música es profunda. “Desde muy pequeño tengo una gran relación con la música”, explica. “Mi padre era profesor de conservatorio y en mi familia este arte siempre ha sido muy importante”. Esa exposición temprana sentó las bases, pero no fue hasta años después cuando su voz artística terminó de tomar forma.

Como muchos músicos, Morell comenzó como instrumentista. “Mi viaje como músico comienza a los doce años, cuando empecé a tocar la guitarra y durante muchos años fui solo guitarrista”. No fue hasta la quietud de la pandemia cuando algo cambió. “Fue hace unos seis años, cuando me animé a descubrir mi voz para poder defender mi proyecto actual”. Ese paso al frente, dejar de estar detrás del instrumento para ponerse en el centro, constituye el núcleo emocional de Ànimes.

El álbum, que ha llevado casi tres años de trabajo, se construye más desde la introspección que desde la narrativa. “Normalmente no hablo de la vida cotidiana, sino de las emociones que tengo dependiendo del momento en el que estoy”, afirma. Es precisamente esa fluidez emocional lo que da cohesión a Ànimes. Las canciones no siguen una historia lineal, sino que dibujan distintos estados internos: frágiles, intensos, reflexivos y en ocasiones, abiertos e inconclusos.

Esa autenticidad está directamente ligada a su proceso creativo, que sigue siendo deliberadamente íntimo. “La música está compuesta 100% por mí en casa, igual que la letra”, explica. “Ahí es donde empiezan las ideas, con mi portátil, hasta tener una demo bastante fiel a lo que quiero que sea el resultado final”. Estas primeras versiones funcionan como mapas emocionales, capturando la esencia de cada tema antes de evolucionar en el estudio.

Esa transformación ocurre junto a su colaborador habitual, el productor Pedro Moyà. “Cuando tengo la demo hecha voy al estudio de mi amigo y productor Pedro Moyà, donde todo empieza a hacerse real”, dice Morell. “Juntos hacemos que la canción o el disco llegue al resultado que tenemos en mente”. El papel de Moyà es clave, no como alguien que redefine la visión, sino como quien la expande. “Tiene una mente muy creativa y aporta muchas ideas que a mí quizá no se me habrían ocurrido y que normalmente son un aporte positivo para la canción”.

Aunque Ànimes es el eje central, el estreno de “Com seria” funciona como una puerta de entrada perfecta a su universo. El tema condensa la esencia del disco: introspectivo, emocional y sin miedo a mostrarse vulnerable. La sesión en vivo que lo acompaña sigue la misma línea, sin artificios y centrado en la emoción más que en el espectáculo. No distrae: sino que invita a sentir.

A nivel sonoro, el disco recoge un amplio abanico de influencias que Morell ha sabido absorber y transformar. “Mis influencias van desde el rock de los 90 de la escena norteamericana como Red Hot, Nirvana o Pearl Jam, hasta un rock más clásico como The Beatles, Cream o King Crimson”. También hay una huella de modernidad, marcada por artistas como “Mars Volta, St. Vincent o Turnstile”. Pero por encima de todos destaca una figura clave: “Mi referente absoluto es John Frusciante”. Más que una influencia estética, se trata de una filosofía: priorizar la verdad emocional por encima de todo.

Sin embargo, Ànimes no existe en el vacío. Está condicionado, en parte, por el entorno en el que nace. La escena musical mallorquina, aunque llena de talento, atraviesa dificultades. “Hay muchísimo talento aquí”, afirma Morell, “pero cada vez es más difícil mostrar proyectos originales porque la isla está cada vez más enfocada únicamente al turismo”. La falta de espacios que apuesten por música propia genera barreras claras. “Parece que los espacios no quieren apostar por música local, solo por grupos tributo o versiones y eso frena mucho el crecimiento de la escena”.

El último año ha dejado momentos clave. “Recuerdo con mucho cariño escapadas a Barcelona para tocar en lugares como el Nou Racó o El Molino – especialmente El Molino – fue un momento precioso”. En Mallorca, también señala el concierto de diciembre en Sabotage como uno de los más especiales. Pero por encima de todo hay un logro que destaca: “Terminar el disco ha sido el punto más importante de todos”.

Es una evolución natural para un proyecto que nace desde lo íntimo, pero que a pesar de todo encuentra su sentido completo en el directo, su sentido en el contacto con el público.

Con Ànimes, Nofre Morell no solo presenta un disco: define una nueva etapa. Y con “Com seria” como carta de presentación visual, invita al oyente a entrar en un espacio tan vulnerable como poderoso.

“Ànimes”: Nofre Morell’s deepest statement and Première of the live session of “Com seria”

There are records that introduce an artist and others that define them. With Ànimes, Nofre Morell delivers the latter, a deeply personal and emotionally driven body of work that marks a turning point, in both his sound and identity. As Heatwave Magazine premieres the live session video for “Com seria”, we step into a project that feels less like a collection of songs and more like an open window into the artist’s inner world.

Born in Palma de Mallorca in 1994, Morell’s connection to music runs deep. “Since I was very young I’ve had a strong connection with music”, he explains. “My father was a conservatory teacher and in my family this art has always been very important”. That early exposure laid the foundation but it wasn’t until years later that his artistic voice fully emerged.

Like many musicians, Morell began as an instrumentalist. “My journey as a musician began at the age of twelve, when I started learning guitar and for many years I was only a guitarist”, he says. It wasn’t until the stillness of the pandemic that something shifted. “It was about six years ago, when I encouraged myself to discover my voice in order to front my current project”. That moment of transition, stepping from behind the instrument into the spotlight seems to form the emotional backbone of Ànimes.

The album, which took nearly three years to complete, is rooted in introspection rather than storytelling. “I don’t usually talk about everyday life”, Morell says. “I talk more about the emotions I have depending on the moment I’m in.” It’s this emotional fluidity that gives Ànimes its cohesion. The songs don’t follow a narrative arc so much as they map out a series of internal states: fragile, intense, reflective and at times unresolved.

Central to this authenticity is his creative process, which remains deliberately intimate. “The music is 100% composed by me at home, just like the lyrics” he explains. “That’s where the ideas start, with my laptop, until I have a demo that’s quite faithful to what I want the final result to be”. These early versions act as emotional blueprints, capturing the raw intent of each track before it evolves in the studio.

That evolution happens alongside his close collaborator and producer Pedro Moyà. “Once I have the demo, I go to my friend and producer Pedro Moyà’s studio, where everything starts to become real”. “Together we make the song or the record reach the result we have in mind”. Moyà’s role is crucial. Not as someone who reshapes the vision but as someone who expands it. “He has a very creative mind and brings in many ideas that I might not have thought of and they’re generally a positive input for the song”.

While Ànimes stands as the core statement, the premiere of “Com seria” offers a powerful entry point into its universe. The track mirrors the album’s essence: introspective, emotionally charged and unafraid of vulnerability. The accompanying live session brings that same ethos: stripped of excess, focused on feeling rather than spectacle. It doesn’t try to distract; it invites you to sit with the emotion.

Musically, the record reflects a wide range of influences that Morell has absorbed and reinterpreted over time. “My influences range from ’90s North American rock like Red Hot, Nirvana or Pearl Jam to more classic rock like The Beatles, Cream or King Crimson”. There’s also a thread of modernity running through the album, shaped by artists like “Mars Volta, St. Vincent or Turnstile”. Still, one figure looms largest: “My absolute reference is John Frusciante”. That influence is less about sound and more about philosophy – the pursuit of emotional truth above all else.

Yet, Ànimes doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s shaped, in part, by the environment in which it was created. Mallorca’s music scene, while rich in talent, faces increasing challenges. “There’s a huge amount of talent here”, Morell says, “but it’s becoming more difficult to show original projects because the island is increasingly focused only on tourism”. The lack of venues willing to support original music has created barriers, pushing artists to fight harder for visibility. “It seems like spaces don’t want to bet on local music, only tribute bands or covers, and that really slows down the growth of the scene.”

Despite this, Morell remains committed. Not just to his own work but to the idea of a thriving local scene. He points to spaces that continue to support artists, offering a sense of community in an otherwise changing landscape.

The past year has already marked significant milestones. “Trips to Barcelona to play at venues like Nou Racó or El Molino were very special. Especially El Molino, it was a beautiful moment”, he recalls. Back in Mallorca, a December show at Sabotage stands out as another highlight. But above all, one achievement towers over the rest: “Finishing the new album was the biggest highlight of all”.

Now, with Ànimes finally out in the world, the focus turns outward. “Right now, the plan is to play live as much as possible to promote the new record”. It’s a natural next step for a project that thrives on emotional connection. Taking songs born in solitude and sharing them in real time with an audience.

With Ànimes, Nofre Morell doesn’t just present a record, he defines a new phase of his artistic identity. And with “Com seria” as its visual introduction, listeners are invited into a space that is as vulnerable as it is compelling.

This is not just a release. It’s a statement. And it’s only the beginning.
