In the vortex of musical prowess, Blind Ambition stands tall as a force to be reckoned with. Meet the powerhouse quartet: Irina on vocals, Marko on guitar, Nemanja slaying the bass and Geertjan hammering the drums. These cats aren’t just a band; they’re a fusion of global experiences and killer sounds that’ll blow your mind.

Their story is full of chance encounters and shared passions. Picture this: Irina and Marko kick things off in Amsterdam’s art scene, sparking Blind Ambition’s fiery vocals. Meanwhile, Nemanja and Marko’s musical bromance begins in Vienna and Amsterdam, morphing into a mission to launch a female-fronted band with killer tunes already in the bag. Enter Geertjan, adding his rhythm to the mix thanks to a chance reunion in the Amsterdam hardcore-punk scene.

Irina met Marko while running an art project at OT301 in Amsterdam. It was Marko who invited Irina to join in for the vocals of Blind Ambition and start writing lyrics. 

Nemanja and Marko initially met through a mutual friend from Belgrade some years ago. Soon the mutual musical involvement started, and it continued further creatively until we talked about starting a female fronted band. We already had a couple of songs to start with.

Geertjan and Marko met in Amsterdam hardcore-punk scene in the late nineties. He played drums in Marko’s band Vitamin X in early 2000s. Marko ran into Geert by coincidence at Circle Jerks show at the end of 2022 in Melkweg, and asked him to join this new project that is now called Blind Ambition.

These cats are from all corners of the globe: Irina, a Florence native with Finnish/Italian roots; Marko and Nemanja, straight outta Belgrade; and Geertjan, a true-blue Dutchman who found his inspiration in Amsterdam. Each brings a unique musical heritage, blending it all into the sound that is Blind Ambition.

The band’s name “Blind Ambition” is about the grit, the grind, and the guts it takes to chase your dreams.

It was quite hard for us to find a good name that is available. After a couple of brainstorming sessions, Geert-Jan came up with Blind Ambition, which we all liked. We all have both similar and different view on the name, it can be interpreted in different ways. We can say that the name Blind Ambition reflects persistence, illusions in life, motivation, disappointments, struggle to be unique, a daring leap into a new direction…

Musically, Blind Ambition’s a tag team effort. Marko and Nemanja lay down the beats and melodies, while Irina spins lyrical tales that hit you right in the feels. A mix of individual genius brewing into a collective jam session that births solid tracks.

Their latest release, a demo packed with five tracks is a glimpse into the band. Recorded by the maestro Nils Feenstra and mastered in 2023, these tracks are about to drop on a cassette tape, with plans for a vinyl/digital release in 2024. This demo captures Blind Ambition at their raw, unfiltered best, paving the way for their musical evolution.

Their influences? As diverse as their backgrounds. Marko digs deep into punk and hardcore legends, while Nemanja’s music journey spans garage rock to thrash metal and everything in between. Geertjan draws inspiration from drumming legends across genres, adding his unique flair.

In 2023, the band released their demo and are planning a short German tour together with other already planned dates in the Netherlands. The plan for 2024 is to drop an LP, link up with a label and keep playing stages.

The Dutch music scene might be small but it’s enthusiastic and supportive. The city’s backing fuels Blind Ambition’s fire, pushing them to bring that next-level energy to every gig.
